Military Service and Higher Education

In 1968, Gordon enlisted in the Army, was sent to Vietnam as a Personnel Specialist E-2, and was promoted to Specialist E-5 during his tour. He was later stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Following his military service, Gordon attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, majoring in Broadcasting- Radio/Television. He worked as a student manager at WCSU-FM, and the University hired him full-time as he started his final year.

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Corporate Career

After leaving WCSU-FM, Gordon started a desktop publishing business out of his home, which grew to three employees and a storefront office in downtown Xenia, Ohio. Seven years later, he received a job offer from Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMC). After three years, LMC lost the contract he was working on, but offered him another position in New Orleans, LA (NOLA). Although initially expected to last three years, he retired from LMC after 18 years in NOLA.

DJ Career and Memory-MakerDJs

While in NOLA, Gordon combined his love of music, DJ experience, and radio management background to open a successful mobile DJ business called “Memory-MakerDJs.” He and his wife Pamela performed at 80-90 birthday parties in various venues in NOLA, including backyards, senior housing centers, banquet halls, and some of NOLA’s best hotels, catering to audiences ranging from 16 to 70 years old. This experience helped them transition to performing in clubs, where Gordon started as one of several DJs and eventually became a resident/house DJ, playing every Friday and Saturday night at two different clubs over a period of five years.

Notable Events and Wedding Receptions

Gordon and Pamela were selected by Red Frog Events, producers of the “Warrior Dash” events, to play in New Orleans and Jackson, MS, performing for up to 10,000 participants. They also became involved in the wedding reception business, performing at numerous downtown New Orleans hotels and banquet halls, including a high-profile wedding featured on “Say Yes to the Dress.” Despite performing in luxurious venues, they also catered to more modest receptions in local union halls.

Return to Dayton and Future Plans

After returning to Dayton, Ohio, Gordon has been planning to launch Memory Maker Radio2 in 2024 as an internet streaming radio station. This plan is detailed in the Memory Maker Radio2 — Technical Document and Business Plan.
